Are some patients unsuitable for dental implant treatment?
Yes. The most common reason for us not being able to offer treatment is if there are things wrong with other natural teeth that need prior attention by your dentist or ourselves. Necessary preliminary treatment is then carried out and we can usually proceed in due course.
The second common reason is that you might not have enough jaw bone in the site where a tooth or teeth have been lost. Inadequate bone can be increased by bone grafting.
Other reasons might be conditions that affect bone healing around dental implants – commonly patients who are heavy smokers, have poorly controlled diabetes or are taking large doses of steroids for other medical conditions.
