'Smile Design' is a process - not one particular type of dentistry. Natural teeth are of all shapes and sizes and occupy a precise space between the lips. Generally symmetry, straightness and whiteness are seen as desirable features of an attractive smile but achieving the right tooth dimensions and position of the surrounding gum can take weeks, sometimes months, to get right. The general principles involved in achieving a natural look use dimensions drawn from natural teeth and we often use examples of attractive natural smiles, together with your preferences, to inspire us.

The next stage is to make a simulation in wax or acrylic. Whenever possible we try to transpose this to your mouth so that you cannot only see the difference but feel the difference as well. New teeth can also make significant changes to speech and these changes need to be evaluated. Only when these ‘trial’ teeth have been found to be satisfactory do we proceed with the ‘permanent’ teeth. These permanent teeth can be natural looking denture teeth, handmade new tooth surfaces made of porcelain or complete crowns and bridges supported by either teeth or dental implants.
