How long does a course of dental implant treatment take?

Several appointments are involved for the planning and placement of the implant, or implants, then several more for the building of the tooth or teeth a few months later. Therefore typically there will be seven to ten visits over a period of five or six months. Treatment involving adding bone to the jaw (bone grafting) will take several more visits over several more months. Sometimes treatment can be speeded up by having a tooth or teeth removed and the implant inserted at the same visit, but it is still necessary to wait several more months for the final crown or bridge. During the time treatment is going on you will require a ‘temporary’ tooth, or teeth, if the treatment is at the front of your mouth. This might be a removable denture or some form of bridgework. If it is a missing back tooth patients frequently stay with the space until the new tooth is fitted.
